One of the reasons we make New Year’s resolutions is the illusion of a fresh start. The start of a new year feels like a clean slate, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start over.
We think, “This is it! This is the year I’m going to finally achieve my goals!” And it feels good for about a week.
But then reality sets in. We realize that we’ve been here before and that the start of a new year doesn’t magically change anything. We’re still the same people we were on December 31st, and the challenges and obstacles that hold us back in the past are still there.
